Wednesday Miscellany!

Holy crap, people! How did it get to be Wednesday again? Anyone else feeling like the week/month is flying right by? Let's get right down to the good stuff, shall we?
I don't think we need to re-establish the fact that I have a thing for simple gold bands. How's this one for awesome?:

Reticulated Narrow Band Two, Barrio Neal

I'm probably late to the game on this, but Need Supply Co. is my new favorite online shop. Mix high and low without having to shop at different places. Also? Amazing shoes and accessories.

Here's my full shopping list:
Everything.

Here's my abbreviated shopping list:

3d Mirror ring
Kenzie Cape (as long as we are wishing for things, I need about 4" more height with this one so I don't look like I am being eaten by a sleek muppet)
Silk Secret Skirt

There are a few things coming up on the horizon that will require me to dress as opposed to get dressed. These bad boys say "I am dressed." Also, if you get hit by a car, the EMTs and ER doctors will be so pumped that you took it a step above and beyond just clean underwear.

Catriona Luxury Sequins Suspender Knickers, La Lilouche

And also:

Allie Brosh is a genius. If you didn't find your inspiration for your Halloween costume yesterday, consider Allie's amazing idea.
This lady is the queen of cross stitch.
I love lamp (points to those of you who got that reference. Welcome to my frat house).
Forget Disneyland, this has got to be the happiest place on earth.
Can't wait to see what Rebecca's cooking up for the Pretty Mommy recipe exchange!

Tomorrow Elisabeth and I will be tag-teaming you with 2 recipes--get ready for dinner AND dessert!

Wednesday Miscellany: Prep Edition

East coasters might not find anything odd about the notion of boarding or prep school, but as a Northern Californian that entire world was completely foreign and utterly intriguing to me (I honestly believed that boarding school was a euphemism for rehab or reform school). Now that I've lived here for almost 7 years, I know more than a handful of people who attended these schools and none of them were sent there for Lindsay Lohan-esque behavior. I'm not sure I've admitted it to them, but in my head, they all went to Rushmore Academy and every fall I wish I was going to school there too.

Of course, I'd have to study up. I could go old school with classics like Take Ivy and The Preppy Handbook, but I think I'd also have to get some new school tips from True Prep.

Please tell me I can roll up to campus in a woody and everyone will be dressed like the Hilfigers:
Or like this group by Partners & Spade for Boast:

Since I'm well past boarding school age, I'll have to live vicariously through film. Luckily, there are two pieces of good news for Wes Anderson fans (like us!) jonesing for their fix:
(1) The Criterion Collection is releasing a super fantastic edition of The Darjeeling Limited (one of my personal favorites) on October 12. If you're not familiar with Criterion, they produce special editions of "the greatest films from around the world" in the highest quality possible and with amazing supplements and gorgeous cover art. Can we say holiday present?
(2) Wes Anderson has begun pre-production on his next live-action project, titled Moonrise Kingdom (via Production Weekly). I know I can't wait to find out what it is.

Oh, and in other miscellany:
Pretty Mommy is hosting a recipe exchange. Do you know what that means? A new, delicious fall recipe every weekday--if that doesn't inspire you to get your cook on, I don't know what will. Today's recipe is from Katie at The 30 Girl. Expect a little something from us on October 14 and November 4.

Also, guess who we'll be wandering around with downtown this Saturday? If you guessed her and them, you were right! I'm pretty sure only good things can come about with that cast of characters.

Happy Wednesday!

Wednesday Miscellany

There is so much amazing stuff floating around the internet this week, and I can't wait to share it with you! Hold onto your hats, dear readers, because this post is about to be a doozy.

First up, Have you seen the new arrivals over at My Pretty MommyCovet, covet, covet.  I know that rule #1 of retail is "Don't sample the merchandise," but ladies, if I were Michelle, I would have a veeeerrrry hard time with that. She has impeccable taste, and if that weren't enough, she's the nicest person ever!  She's offering all of you 20% off on any purchase over at her website.  Just enter "youplusme" at checkout, and you'll be good to go (I told you she was nice)! Click here to shop.
Starshaped Letterpress is killing it.  I want to get married again just to use these invites.
Do you want these boots?  Ohmygosh, me too!  We have so much in common!

And furthermore:
* I have two new internet crushes this week--and they both involve the word "supper."  Come discover them with me here and here. Awesome, right?
* I want to go check this out.
* You may not know this about me, but I have a terrible pottymouth. It's horrible. I swear like a sailor, but only if that sailor swore so much so as to horribly offend all of the other sailors on his ship. (Tangent: when Emi was born, she was premature so they took her to examine her before I could see her clearly.  When Jordy said "She has your mouth," I was seriously worried that she had come out yelling the f-word.)  Maybe that's why I find this so funny.

Finally, you'll notice some changes around here starting on Friday.  Our little internet crush list is going to get a little shorter as we start to pick a few blogs every month that we love to feature on a monthly "internet crushes" page. We'll also be introducing a "featured vendors" page to introduce you to folks who are doing amazing work.  Long story short, we're making room for some ads on this here blog. Nothing offensive, we promise. Unless it's my personal ad, in which case, I can't promise I won't accidentally drop an f-bomb. If you'd like to advertise with You + ME*, drop us an email at youplusmestyling{at}gmail{dot}com.  Our rates are super reasonable with small businesses in mind.

Happy Wednesday, everyone!  Go forth and conquer!

Wednesday Miscellany

So many fantastic online magazines have released autumn issues in the past couple weeks that I can barely keep up with them. My only complaint is that I can't read them while curled up in bed, right before I fall asleep. Just in case you missed one, here's a list of some recent publications worth perusing:

Sweet Paul. Don't flip through while you're hungry! I almost licked the screen a few times.

Rue. Such a welcome addition to the online magazine world.

Small & LMNOP. If only childhood was always as pretty and magical as these two make it out to be. I do hope that has been close to Claire's experience thus far.

I'm experiencing this strange feeling where all I want to do is stick close to home, but I'm craving images of all the fantastic places I could visit when I wake up with wanderlust again. Here are some of the sites that are giving me my fix:

Designtripper. As this site grows, it's going to be an amazing resource.

Taking the Great American Roadtrip. I picture loading up the whole family, including the dog, and driving across the country in an RV. Crazy or trip of a lifetime? (Full disclosure: our daughter gets horribly car sick)

Dunton Hot Springs. I have a huge extended family and I love the idea of renting the whole town for a long weekend family reunion. Hot springs, vineyards, outdoor activities--you'd have to drag me away! I'm not sure this will happen anytime soon. Can one of you please do this and tell us all about it?

Let's all take 5 minutes to escape today, so we can avoid the dreaded midweek slump.

Wednesday Miscellany

Happy hump day, friends! Here are some of the things that I am loving this week:
Here is old-school Johnny Depp with his niece. This picture is taken from this amazing gallery. These balloons just prove that everything old is new again.

Ladies and Gentlemen, our New Favorite Person, Trent Bailey. He's an über-talented photographer, and you should visit his website and click on "Meet Trent" just to see all of the lovely things he says about his wife. We've got some awesome, awesome stuff in the works with him, so stay tuned!
Do you want a pair of these? Me too. For me, not for Emi. Or maybe matching ones for me and Emi.
Here's a very fun way to keep track of your pregnancy (via ohdeedoh); this is my very favorite pregnancy journal ever.

-Would you pay $25-40 for Lonny in print? The twitter universe seems to think $15 is about right for an amaaaaazing magazine, but the jury is still out about $25-40.

-Also, can we please talk about Anthology (check out this video on design*sponge)? Want, want, want.

-Meg wrote to tell me that this house is "Very Miya," and I think that's the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me.

-Finally, I have an official new girl crush. Folks, meet Nancy of Wolf and Willow. She has an amazing children's clothing line, she contributes to Maeve, and she can sew like the dickens. You should add her to your daily reads immediately.

Have a great day, everyone! Go get 'em (or, as Jordy likes to say, "Git 'er done!")!

Midweek MIscellany

Were any of you lucky enough to attend Paul Ferney's cake show? It was a collaboration with Jordan, his ridiculously talented wife.  Lucky for all of us that couldn't make it, we can buy one of those gorgeous cakes right here. I would like to hang a cake on my wall.

I know Labor Day is only just behind us, but I cannot help but get excited about the prospect of months and months of pumpkin everything. It's my goal to eat each and every one of these recipes this fall.

I definitely do not need a pair of over the knee boots right now (even though they do have a very practical heel for my lifestyle), but I covet these anyway.

A cool trick for taking macro photos even if you don't have a macro lens from the ever helpful folks at Photojojo.

The new issue of La Petite Magazine (for the little ones) is out and it's lovely. It was great to see Made By Joel featured in there. Is it wrong that I wish he would come to my apartment and make things for Claire?

A Wednesday Hodge-Podge

Hello, gentle readers! Can you believe it's September already? I feel like I was just enjoying the springtime--where has the summer gone? We hope all is going well with you and your week. Here is some randomness to perk up your Wednesday:
Another huge congrats to Ashley and Aron on winning our giveaway. I first ran across their blog when Ashley did a guest post on Pretty Mommy, and then was happily surprised to see that Aron left a comment on our giveaway, and then even more happily surprised when Elisabeth told me that they were our winners. Their blog is one of my new faves, for sure. They're super adorable, no?

Here's some stuff from around the interwebs this week:

--Do you want this pitcher? Me, too.

--Beautiful vintage-inspired tops from Etsy seller ForetLA. If the Blue River Bomber Jacket or Sage Blouse just happened to show up on my doorstep, I would have no complaints about that.

--Hand-drawn animals in hand-drawn frames? In bright and quirky colors? Yes, please. Now that Emi has semi-mastered "baaa," it's high time she learn what sound a gnu makes.

--If I were into trinkets, this little gold-plated jackalope would be on my must-have list.

--Me & Arrow has a lookbook that is spot-on this fall. And their fall collection is all leathery and wooly. In a good way, not in an old-people-at-the-beach kind of way (ba-dum-bum-ch!). {via}

Have a wonderful, sunshiney, in-denial-that-you'll-soon-be-too-cold day, everyone!

60th birthday celebration

Hello, hello. I just returned from from our annual vacation with my husband's family to a lake deep in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Going on this trip always feels a little bit like stepping back in time since the same families have been meeting at this group of cabins for generations. There are freezing early morning lake swims, dinner bells, a daily rest hour (which is always the most difficult thing to lose upon returning home), theme cocktail parties, and sleeping porches, not to mention that the cabins are in such a remote location that internet access is intermittent at best and the cabins actually share a phone located in the ice house. It truly is a rustic retreat.

August is a big month of celebrations for my family with loads of birthdays, anniversaries, and other festive occasions. Since we're often scattered about the country, our trip to Wisconsin tends to be the perfect time to celebrate together. This year was no exception since our trip just about coincided with my father-in-law's 60th birthday. To mark the occasion, we surprised him with a little party in the woods. In keeping with the spirit of our location, it was nothing fancy, but it was full of items meant to evoke memories of his youth.

I hope all of you get your own version of a retreat before the summer comes to its official end. Whether you're floating on a lake, digging your toes in the sand while watching waves break, or just eating an especially drippy ice cream cone in your backyard, you definitely deserve at least one more lazy day of summer.

Happy Friday!

These are a few pictures that I took last weekend; I couldn't resist sharing them with you. This was one of the warmest and most joyful weddings I have ever been to. I hope you are as loved as these two are. Have a happy weekend!

Seating Chart

Hi there! Today is a big, big day. Have you checked out our giveaway yet? Huge news. Anyhow, I've been itching to share this project with you. Conor & Jerem got married this weekend in the Russian River Valley in California. The wedding was inspired by blues and greys, they also wanted a rustic feel as well. They asked us to come up with a creative seating chart that might also incorporate favors. We proposed making corsages & boutonnieres for all of their guests out of vintage buttons & vintage-inspired ribbon. We then hand-wrote all of the guests' names on paper luggage tags, and placed the boards on easels. What do you think?
Speaking of gay weddings, have you been to equallywed.com? It's a same-sex wedding magazine with great fashion, registry, fitness, and planning articles. Marni and Casey's Atlanta wedding is so. Freaking. Pretty. And their gold shoes? Swoon!
